Also, when you say protect the phpMyAdmin folder by user/pass, do you mean Hi, I think Jason meant that you should add some kind of security, and in this instance I think he meant basic authentication in ApacheThank you much for the information you shared with me. If you have a second I was wondering if you could help. As you suggested I created a file called ".htaccess" which I located at /usr/local/apache/htdocs, this file has the following: AuthUserFile /usr/local/apache/htdocs/passwd AuthGroupFile /usr/local/apache/htdocs/passwd.group
AuthName "phpMyAdmin" AuthType Basic<Limit GET POST PUT> require valid-user </Limit> It was not clear from your email or the O'Rielly Apache book whether the path for the "AuthUserFile" and the location of the "passwd" file should be in "htdocs" or whether it should be in the folder I am trying to protect "phpMyAdmin" I used the htpasswd command as follows (while in the htdocs directory): htpasswd -c passwd user1 It prompted me for a password twice. I checked the "passwd" file and an encrypted password was added for the user. I created a "passwd.group" file with one group entry as follows: owners: user1 user2 I stopped and started httpd, quit my browser, then linked to phpMyAdmin. No authentication was prompted.
