Not too bad, as long as you also make it so the web server cannot send
things from it. One problem you need to be worried about is having someone
upload a file with a program in it, and be able to hit it with the web
server before it gets deleted. The trick is to make sure your temporary
upload directory is outside DocumentRoot.
