Hi,
I am do a project to implement a same online shopping application in 2 ways to prove the hypothesis that applications implemented in PHP/mySQL como would have better performance than those implemented in CGI(specifically Perl programming using DBI to link to mySQL database). My question is: what would be the best way to show the difference in time for getting results back once a user submits a request?
For instance, the time it takes between a user clicking the button to submit a search, and the browser getting things back from server and displaying the content? I think this would be something related to HTTP connection, not database performance, or OS process time, as the time I am trying to get includes browser->server, server executing the script(or call CGI for execution), database query, server->browser, etc.
Any idea or clue or references or links would be most appreciated.
Patricia
