Well, if the host is using virtual hosting (i.e. different pages get returned for different hostnames, even with the same IP address) you'll need to send a "Host:" field in the header which contains the hostname of the site you're trying to get to. I believe it goes something like this (someone correct me if I'm wrong): GET / HTTP/1.1 Host: slashdot.org ... or something to that effect.
