is there the equivalent of ASP's Application object in PHP?

... or at least a workaround (serialize/deserialize save to/load from file)?
I need to keep in some memories some objects relevant for all users of my
site. Thus, the session is not the most useful place to store them.
I'm using PHPLIB, but couldn't find an equivalent there either.
