I don't like to state the obvious, but what about email?
Here in the U.S. every provider has an email address that connects direct to your phone's SMS inbox. For example:
phonenumber@mobile.att.net - AT&T Wireless
phonenumber@vmobile.com - Virgin Mobile
phonenumber@vtext.com - Verizon Wireless
Those are just a couple that I know off the top of my head. There's more, one for every provider I believe. Try sending an email via SMS to your computer email account and see what the sender address is. Or you might find this info from your provider. You should also check your provider's site and see if they have a web form to send an SMS - every major provider in the U.S. also has this. The forms are quite simple and could be controlled via a few lines of curl without a problem.
I use those email addresses in scripts to send SMSes off. Obviously, there's a pretty strict limit as to how much you can put it (the provider truncates anything longer), so you need to break up longer messages. But it works quite well, typically taking only a few seconds to get to the phone.
