I think this will do what you want. It prints out "Bill"...
<?
$foo = array (
'bar' => array (
'name' => 'Bill'
)
);
$arr = '$foo';
$ind = '[bar][name]';
eval("\$sValue = $arr$ind;");
echo $sValue;
?>
