Here's a tip that assumes :
a. You don't want php mailing list emails going through your inbox as
maybe you feel the list fills it up to fast.
b. You have procmail (procmail.org) or will get it (you should!)
c. You are running some form of Unix (anything but windows i think)
With procmail you can redirect mail to other folders. Below is an example
of how to do it with php-general.
<snip from .procmailrc>
:0
* ^(Sender|To|Cc):.*php-general.*@.*lists.php.net.*
in-php-general
</snip from .procmailrc>
Now, a file called 'in-php-general' will be created and hold all mail from
php-general mailing list in unix mail spool format.
The above assumes you have configured .procmailrc mail folder directory
(MAILDIR) 'properly'. See your .procmailrc for details, the default is
helpful in this regard. Your .procmailrc *should* be in your home
directory ($HOME). Any *good* host will have this setup for you and if
they don't just ask, they will love that :)
To view your mail (I only know mutt/pine , there are others like elm) :
1. In Pine : 'l' for folder list, choose folder. (that's the letter l)
2. In Mutt : 'c' for folder list, choose folder.
If you have thoughts on this feel free to email me or the list, I am
looking into creating a more robust tutorial and am always wanting to
expand my procmail horizons.
Btw, you can add multiple folders for other lists, such as php-db.
Procmail is your friend and is powerful so be careful or you'll learn it
the hard way (I did!). Let's just say for a couple months every email
with 'test' in the subject line was put into a directory that I did not
know about.
Regards,
Philip
