OpenLDAP should be a good choice. Many of us have been using OpenLDAP
with PHP for a long time.
If you use OpenLDAP 2.0.x, remember to use a recent version of PHP,
4.0.2 or newer I think. I can't help any more without knowing what
errors you get.
