Variables will only be lost between the two sites if they are session
variables. There may be some cute trick whereby you can get both instances
of php to get at the same session data, but is sounds extremely dangerous to
me.
Your best bet is to get all your variables (encrypted where necessary)
either into form fields or the query string on the pages which take you to
and from the secure site - that way they will survive the transition.
I'm not sure that you can get rid of the "You are about to be redirected to
a non-secure site...blah blah blah" message - that's got to be down to
browser configuration.
