Why would you bother?? Its like getting a Ford and trying to use Porche parts. You would spend less on a Linux system and have less problems with it. You can run PHP, MySql, and Apache on a 486 Linux box. You Might spend 50.00 on the whole setup and be able to out perform a Winnt System doing the same thing using NT server or 2000, MS SQL server 7.0 and IIS4 or 5. Running on a 500MHZ pumped full of RAM. This would cost you Thousands !!!! I just dont get it when people want to make more work for them selves and spend 10 times the $$
Its a simple thing. People are afraid of change. As far as most clients are concerned, they would rather have a computer they semi-understand (ie, windows) than go with the more stable, robust, and cost effective solution (ie, unix). As much as you and I know that a Unix flavour is a much better solution, people in the corporate world (the ones with the $$$ paying you the money to do your stuff) often get set in their computing ways, and no matter what you say, most of the time they wont like it because they dont understand it (or it doesnt have a Start button) so its evil. And as it is with all situations, you work with what you are given. Chris
