It doesn't teach you anything - IMO you should learn the dirty code before you
use a pretty frontend. A great example of this is all the boneheads out there
that started on Dreamweaver and say they are "skilled at HTML".
If you want to learn SQL go get a book and learn "relational algebra", then
read all you can about your DB (ie what makes up an optimized query, optimized
join, difference between the char and varchar, etc.), learn the text prompt
version (which is about 20 times more powerful than any frontend ever will be),
and if you want move on to the pretty front end.
Also, keep in mind that PhpMyAdmin is about as unsecure as it comes - you would
be insane to keep this on an external network with just a .htaccess file
protecting it.
