My host is using PHP 3.0.16. Riddle me this:
00:37:46 /home/tdavis> grep track_vars /usr/local/lib/php3.ini
track_vars = On ; ...
00:38:47 /home/tdavis> grep register_globals /usr/local/lib/php3.ini
Alright. track_vars is on, and register_globals is unset and thus
defaults to off.
If I have a form that submits via the POST method, with a text input
named "dumbthing", then $HTTP_POST_VARS['dumbthing'] is not set, even
though track_vars is on. What's more, the global variable $dumbthing
*is* set, even though register_globals is off. If I put
<?php_track_vars?> into my pages, then things work as expected. Any
clue why?
And one other thing. Why does this work:
<?php_track_vars?>
But this doesn't:
<? php_track_vars ?>
And this doesn't:
<?
php_track_vars;
...more_scripting_here...
?>
Why the different syntax for this one thing anyway?
