Hello!
Wanted to drop a quick line to the group here going over
our first PHP users meeting in southeastern Michigan.
I don't want to say 'only' 15 people showed up - for very little
publicity
(none!) I think that's a good start. We're tentatively planning to
meet the 4th Thursday of every month (except this coming November,
as it's a holiday).
Brief overview
1. Food and drinks were provided (I think that got a lot of people in!)
2. We had brief intros from people and found quite a wide
range of experiences.
3. We are formalizing plans for our next meeting to include
an installation walkthrough (basic troubleshooting, etc) and
a more advanced topic (probably PNG creation or something
similar)
4. One of our engineers briefly described our current
application approach, somewhat similar to servlets.
Kinda above many people's heads, but we did get some good
discussions going on that - especially from people familiar with
MS technologies or Java throwing in their experiences.
Good ideas generated!
5. Keith Elder from http://www.affordablecomputers.com demonstrated
their site (built on PHP), and specifically how they publish and collect
live pricing data with other sites (pretty cool stuff).
Overall, it was a strong start for what we're hoping is adopted as a
regular feature in the area.
For those of you in the area who couldn't make it but would like
to attend next month, please contact me and I'll send details -
we're just outside Ann Arbor, Michigan, close to US23 and I94
(perhaps even Toledo people wouldn't mind coming up too?)
