Have you installed a web server??? do you realise you need web server?? the browser (in your case netscape)will not run PHP applications .phpn or php3 files are sent by the web server to be processed by PHP before being sent to the browser. PHP is a server side technology unless you are using it for shell scripting but from what you have saud that not what you wish to do!! I suggest you properly read the ducmentation on PHP so you can better undertsand how it works http://www.php.net/docs.php if you need a webserver i recommend Omni Httpd for a beginner as its sets up PHP for you its available from http://www.omnicron.ab.ca/httpd/download.html Most importantly read the documentation Cheers Steven ******************************* Steven Michael Holloway Web Programmer Port Douglas Internet Services Cairns Australia steven@pdis.com.au ******************************* -----Original Message----- From: Mig [mailto:mavem@usa.net] Sent: Friday, November 03, 2000 8:46 AM To: php-general@lists.php.net Subject: [PHP] installing PHP on Netscape Hello, I am (really) new to PHP and subscribed this list because I can't install PHP on Netscape 4.5 I searched past messages in this list but couldn't find something about my problem. Let me explain: i downloaded PHP4 for Win95, uncompressed it, copied all .DLL files to c:\windows (as stated in readme.txt) and then I prepared a single text containing <html> <body> <?php phpinfo(); ?> </body> </html> saved it as 'myphp.php3' (because I noticed all php pages has PHP3 extension) Then I turned to Netscape->edit->preferences->navigator->applications and created a new entry 'php' , mime type for netscape automacally call 'php.exe' when any .PHP3 page coming. I did all of this because nothing read about netscape installs into PHP manuals. Then I loaded 'myphp.php3' page and opened a black DOS windows (which only can be closed with ctl/c) Then I said 'something wrong with me' and subscribed here. Help me please.
