OK, follow me:
I am in Japan, we have AT&T, GOL, etc ...
AT&T uses .ne.jp as their DNS,
while GOL .com
in your way you would assume that the Japanese dude ( GOL.com ) who doesn't
even speak English came to me from the United States of America.
Over 30% of ISPs in this world are using whether .com or .net for their DNS
and for their domain names in general. This is due some laws that limit your
possibilities on using country's domain names.
Why does GOL use .com?
Very simple:
Because GOL is owned by Exodus and Exodus is a registered company within
Japan (many other countries as well)
Japanese Law says: a domain name can be obtained ONLY by companies and ONLY
ONE per COMPANY...
Means that Sony can have sony.co.jp but cannot own vaio.co.jp, or
sony-computers.co.jp, or sony-tv.co.jp,,,
They in fact use subdomains...
This is why I need to know the PHYSICAL address of WHO the IP belongs to and
WHERE.
Read Japaninc Magazine, we are covering this issue.
www.japaninc.com
( even here: japaninc.com is not japaninc.co.jp because we still belong to
our parent company which is LincMedia.CO.JP )
It is terrible, I know, I have 96 domain names personally and a company in
JAPAN has no right to buy more then one ... Gezz...
But this is how it works in here AND NOT ONLY HERE (Japan), dozens of other
countries are like this...
Cheers!

If I log using the REMOTE_ADDR and resolving the address to a
name, ie
gethostbyaddr($REMOTE_ADDR)
it gives me the remote name of each user, which usually includes
a country, ie
dm1-39.triode.net.au
myangup0.connect.com.au
tycho-165-227-58-95.tychonet.com
etc etc
Which to me would indicate country, ie Aus, Aus and USA ??
Is there more to this that I am missing ? Sure it may be
possible for someone to log on to a remote server in a remote
country and then issue a request for a web page, but the
majority of people simply dial in and then surf, hence their
ISP is the normal point of contact ?
