What is thought of as a 'guide' to general OO methodology, by many, is
Bertrand Meyer's book, 'Object-Oriented Software Construction', second edition,
PTR. It's pricey. This is a very good book on what OO should be. But we're talking
about full blown OO languages. PHP ain't one of them.
Damian Conway's book, 'Object Oriented Perl', is a fantastic book. Don't know
what
you might could glean out of it for PHP. But Perl would be a closer comparison than
anything else - maybe.
As far as private variables. I believe there was a trick in Perl using 'closures'.
Couldn't do that in PHP3. I just yesterday got PHP4 installed, so haven't tried it
yet. Anywone else?
Not OO at all, but Steve McConnell's book, 'Code Complete' should be near the top of
the list.
