Hmm, this is very interesting! I had a friend who had an opt-in e-zine that he
sent out every couple of weeks to people. About 18 months ago, people started
complaining that they must have missed the latest issue and wanted to know what
was up. About half of his subscribers were on AOL and suddenly none of them
were getting the newsletter. He eventually had to fold the business because his
circulation dropped so much and his orders dried up.
I'd try sending some emails by hand.
Are these coming back exactly as shown? eg., with ..."-AOL on them? If so,
that tells me they could very well be coming from the firewall rather than the
users. Try sending some of the users an email directly and see if they even got
the original emails. If these folks are really opt-ins, then contact a small
sample to act as your "eyeballs" to help you monitor problems and set up some
practices to detect changes in delivery status.
I've heard there's an email address somewhere at AOL that people with opt-in
newsletters can contact to notify them of their service so the AOL anti-spam
policies don't dump the letters. It can take a while, though, from what I've
heard.
Just curious: how many on your total list, and how many have AOL addresses?

ps: I don't think this is PHP related. We might want to continue this
off-list. I have something that might help you anyway that I'd like to pursue.
