dBase - Does it work

I'm trying to get dBase to work in PHP4 (on Apache server). Does it work at
all?
If I uncomment the relevant line I get a message on the server saying
"php_dbase" isn't a valid dll.
is there:
1. something I'm missing.
2. a bug in PHP which I haven't read about.
3. a fix.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
