I'd prefer C++ for the heavy duty non webpage based stuff, but that's just
me. For webpages, sure - PHP takes the cake.

Ooh. I dont think you can back this up. JSP is not some NT based M$ thing
you know. There are perfectly good JSP implementation for non M$ servers.

Ah. The cat is out of the bag. More anti-MS FUD :) You're bashing MS in a
JSP vs PHP discussion, it couldn't be more off-topic.
If you want control, go get assembler out of the closet. THAT'll give you
control. Or C, C++ or Perl - all of which will give you more control than
PHP. What you *REALLY* want is BALANCE. A good mix between control and
babysitting. The fact that PHP found a good mix of that for making webpages,
doesn't mean JSP can't have a good mix of that either. Personally I prefer
PHP, but that doesn't make JSP a lesser language.

Who was talking about forsaking? PHP is far from the ultimate language. In
fact, most programming languages have their individual advantages and
disadvantages. There's such a thing as the right tool for the right job.
Sometimes, that tool is PHP, sometimes it's perl, C or C++, and who knows -
it might even be JSP. But that still doesn't make JSP a better language than
PHP.
