Trivia: FedEx and UPS boxes use Simplex locks. Typically 5 digits that can only be pressed once each. You can press multiple buttons at once though, adding to the permutation a little bit. But in the end, this still only provides roughly 1000 unique combinations. The average child's Master Lock has over 64,000 combinations. I drop my packages off at the store. :) -TG
TG: Further trivia -- as I understand it, most lock and even car manufactures use far less combinations in their locks. More than once I have been able to open someone else's Master Lock with one of my keys. And, there have been many stories about people driving away in a car they thought was theirs because their key worked. I do know that when I was a MP in the service, I saw towing services use a key chain with less than 100 keys to open every common car make made. So, I think we are less secure than we imagine.
