I guess I'm a little confused. I'm running Apache/PHP/MySQL with reasonably recent versions on an SGI Origin 2000 running IRIX 6.5.9 (the latest version as of this morning's sgi web page). I compiled them all using GCC 2.9.x (which I got off freeware.sgi.com, more freeware link). There were no major issues to speak of. Just be sure that when you do your configures that you verify that the make will be using gcc. The SGI compiler did produce smaller executables but I was much more difficult to get things to compile so I didn't think it was worth it. Open source software is made for and thourghly tested against GCC, i would guess, more so than someone elses proprietary ($$$$) compiler, so it shouldn't be surprising. I made no OS modifications to make this combination work (and wouldn't know how to if I needed to!). The combination runs great and I've never had any problems. I've never heard of IRIX 2000. Perhaps you're talking about an SGI 1200 series (an Intel based SGI server ) which could be running Linux or Windows 2000/NT? In that case it would be no different than any other Intel compile on whichever operating system it happens to be running. Hope this clears up more than it clouds.
