The big thing about LDAP is not that it's better but that it's standard. If
your PHP code uses LDAP for, say, address book storage all other LDAP
programs will be able to share that same data - Netscape, Outlook, Eudora,
etc. If you used it for login info, I believe tools have been built for Unix
and NT that would allow you to use a single LDAP server for all
authentication work, giving people a common login for all of your systems.
Again, it's not that it's better for the task but just that so many other
people are using it.
