The places where the exlpanation mark appears is the places where your
mailer encounters a line that is to big to handle.
The RFC states (if I remember correctly) that the max linesize is
something of 72 chars.
(ever wondered why uuencode stops at 60 chars? the length for base64 is
in the whereabouts,
or why Netscape mailer suggets line wrap at 72 chars? :-) )
Although most(all?) modern MTA's (sendmail, postfix, qmail, etc.) can
handle at least 8k (aka 8192) chars per line, you shouldn't count on
that.
PHP has a function (I don't remember which) that sizes your lines to the
requested length.
