The closest to a blob is text, as far as I can ascertain.

To store your data in this field you might probably do some wizardry
with the data you wish to store.
According to Tim Perdue
(http://www.phpbuilder.net/columns/tim20001112.php3?page=2) only the
latest release of PostgreSQL supports ROW sizes larger than 8k (I can't
verify that a, this was a problem nor b, that it is solved).

A script would surely serve to move those images to the file system? But
that would probably break your existing application.
