PHP4 on Pair Networks - question

Has anyone successfully installed PHP4 on pair networks servers according to
the instructions provided at:
http://www.vttrains.com/phphelp/ ?
Have installed everything and phpinfo() kicks out version 4 and all but if
I edit the php.ini file the changes aren't reflected when i subsequently
call phpinfo().
any comments/suggestions??
