POP Interaction

Hi, http://php.net/manual/ref.imap.php That mentions that the underlying library also supports POP as well. However, all of the functions listed are obviously IMAP. I'd like to create some minimal functions to interact with a POP server, yet have seen no real documentation - certainly not of the extent given at the URL above and the IMAP support in PHP. The underlying c-client library also supports NNTP, POP3 and local > mailbox access methods. So, are the function names themselves the same? Can anyone point me in the right direction?
