Well I do a lot of coding for a few different sites (some for amusement and some
for profit) so making portable code is something I strive for. Well this is my
latest installment of just that (I hope).
Miester Search v0.1 is a class that allows you to define a number of tables and
run a few scripts to create some simple btree indexes of those tables. Here are
a few of the features in this release:
- Support for multiple tables (index your news, links, articles, etc.)
- Uses simple relevancy to order results
- Support for boolean AND's (OR's will work, but Google doesn't use them so why
should I?)
- Currently returns results from 5 different tables with a combined total of
about 6000 rows in less than a second. I've scaled similar code to 2M rows
- Support for MySQL only, but a DB abstraction layer is included so porting to
other DB's should be easy.
You can see it in action at http://www.miester.org/search/search.php - a
search
for Linux will show the speed pretty nicely. You can download it for your own
use at http://www.miester.org/software/miester_search_v0.1.tar.gz
It's not exactly google in a box, but it works well for small scale sites that
want to easily index their content.
