I have seen this as well. It has something to do with the binary
distribution of MySQL on Linux. If you download and build MySQL from a
source tarball, then build PHP, it should get past this error. However, I
had problems after that getting mod_perl built, which I have yet to fix.
I am trying to build Apache with PHP built statically. I am building PHP
with oracle and mysql support.
