PHP ext/java and sapi/servlet reliability

Hello, I am interested in hearing peoples opinion on the stability/maturity of the ext/java and sapi/servelet work that has been done with PHP. I am mostly interested in hearing from people who are using either of these in a production type environment. We run a rather large PHP/oracle system and are looking at the possibility of integrating java into this environment. We have been sucessful in running test environments using both of these extensions, but I am a little apprehensive about it's stability. Any insights anyone can share would be greatly appreciated. I wrote an email to Sam Ruby (at his ibm account, if someone has an alternate/new address for him I would appreciate it of someone could sent it my way) about 2 weeks ago asking him his opinions but I never heard back from him.
