post variables disappeared?

Hi Folks,
Something very strange happened to my PHP.. scripts using POST method seemed to stop passing the
variables to the their respective actions.
For instance, if I have a form:
<form method=POST action=somephpfile.php>
<input name=thisvar type=hidden>
<input type submit>
</form>
with somephpfile.php:
<?
print("\$thisvar - $thisvar<br>\n");
?>
the only output will be:
$thisvar -
Does anyone have a clue what may have happened?
