Apache *may* not have been installed from source -- only an "rpm".
That would mean that you don't have the Apache (aka httpd) source.
You should either find the rpm named blahbalbhalbh-Apache-dev.rpm THAT
MATCHES THE APACHE VERSION YOU ARE USING
or download Apache source and install the most recent version of that as
well.
Oh. You would never want the "include" part of the path in what you pass to
configure. configure needs that include *AND* the lib next to it, so you
need to be one directory "up" from those.

Subject: [PHP] Installation
I am trying to install PHP 4. I already have version 3.0 installed with
Apache 1.3.4 and Linux 5.2 I took a look at the documentation and I am a bit
confused. I am still a newbie but can get around pretty good with the
command line :-) Anyways here is where I started:
1) Download the source code and unzipped and and then used the tar xvf
command to uncompress it.
2) Tried the following from the newly created PHP directory :
./configure --with-mysql --with-apache=../path/to/apache --enable-track-vars
Here is the problem, it might sound like a stupid question but I am not sure
what is wrong. Apache, MySQL and PHP 3 were installed by someone else. They
all work perfectly fine together. Problem is I can't find the httpd.h file
that the installation looks for. In fact I can't even find where apache is
installed?? I tried the find / -name "apache" command and find / -name
"httpd.h" and found the httpd.h in some far off directory:
/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/i386-linux/auto/Apache/include/include/httpd.h
Does this make sense that the file would be there? I tried punching that
into the ./configure line as:
./configure --with-mysql --with-apache=/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/i386-linux/a
uto/Apache/include/include --enable-track-vars
and as
./configure --with-mysql --with-apache=/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/i386-linux/a
uto/Apache --enable-track-vars
Is there a command that will tell me where the running version of Apache is?
Same as PHP? I wrote a small PHP script but it doesn't tell the path to PHP
or Apache (or at least the ../Apache_1.3.4 dir doesn't exsist?). Here is the
script:
http://www.videomoviehouse.com/hello.php3
Any help appreciated.
