I've been trying to compile PHP-4.0.4 on Debian Linux as an Apache module with support of JPEG image functions. I've installed the latest GD library (making sure that JPEG support is compiled in). Then I configure PHP the following way: ,---- | ./configure '--with-apxs' '--with-gd' '--with-pgsql' '--without-mysql' | '--disable-debug' '--enable-track-vars' '--disable-pear' '--with-ttf' | '--with-zlib' '--enable-versioning' '--with-system-regex' | '--with-jpeg-dir=/usr/lib' `---- which produces a quite sane output: ,---- | checking for libjpeg (needed by gd-1.8+)... yes | checking for jpeg_read_header in -ljpeg... yes | checking for libXpm (needed by gd-1.8+)... no | configure: warning: If configure fails try --with-xpm-dir=<DIR> | checking whether to include GD support... yes (static) | checking for gdImageString16 in -lgd... yes | checking for gdImagePaletteCopy in -lgd... yes | checking for gdImageColorClosestHWB in -lgd... yes | checking for compress in -lz... yes | checking for png_info_init in -lpng... yes | checking for gdImageColorResolve in -lgd... yes | checking for gdImageCreateFromPng in -lgd... yes | checking for gdImageCreateFromGif in -lgd... no | checking for gdImageWBMP in -lgd... yes | checking for gdImageCreateFromJpeg in -lgd... yes | checking for gdImageCreateFromXpm in -lgd... no `---- Looks like everything is recognised and configured. Alas, after I install PHP and restart apache, I get errors: Warning: ImageJpeg: No JPG support in this PHP build and phpinfo() doesn't report support for JPEG. Any ideas what can be wrong? p.s. The only reason I want JPEG support is because I'm still afraid to use PNG on a production website, since some browsers (notably IE4 for Mac) don't support it; I'm going to use JPEGs with 100% quality instead... I wish GIF support was still left as an option. Many thanks, -- Arcady Genkin Don't read everything you believe.
