I have never heard that $GLOBALS[''] causes performance issues, where did you get this info? does $HTTP_SESSION_VARS work if you turn register_globals on; in php.ini? here is my session.egn file. <?php include_once('time.egn'); if ( isset($PHPSESSID) ) session_id($PHPSESSID); session_start(); if (!isset($HTTP_SESSION_VARS['SessionID'])) { $SessionID = mtime(); session_register('SessionID'); } $PHPSESSID = session_id(); $SID = "PHPSESSID=$PHPSESSID"; ?> -- Chris Lee lee@mediawaveonline.com "Michael Champagne" <mchampagne@capis.com> wrote in message news:Pine.WNT.4.33.0103230749220.197-100000@wkstn106.capis.com... Ok, I'm not really getting this. Without anything in my php.ini I was able to register session vars just like session_register('var') and then access them using $GLOBALS['var']. From what I'm gathering there's a performance hit from using the $GLOBALS? So I turned register_globals off, I'm registering my session vars the same way (i.e. session_register('var')) and then I try to access them with $HTTP_SESSION_VARS['var'], but I don't see my variables. I also defined $HTTP_SESSION_VARS as a global at the top of my function. Does anyone know exactly how this works or can point me to a reference page that has how this works?
