I completely agree. It's quite a leap to go from knowing that script.pl is
faster than script.php to conclude that Perl is faster than PHP. One of the
biggest challenges is to decide whether you're benchmarking an algorithm or
a result. While some people are interested in the performance of the raw
language, most application programmers are not going to care that
$Language[0] is x% faster on $Algorithm if $Language[1] has a native
function which returns the same results and is faster than $Algorithm
implemented in either language.
