My own obserwation is that PHP is much faster than CGI in PERL.
This is due to compilator loading and compilation, and the same
PERL program compiled uder mod_cgi allocate about 6MB of memory
for 1 (ONE) apache process. My server has only 160MB and mod_cgi
was completely misunderstanding. The same under mod_fastcgi. Maybe
it is fast (i cannot test it because of big memory allocation of
module), but i think memory organization under mod_cgi is broken.
PHP has light, fast and small_memory_allocating compiler with
fast executable code, has more capabilities than CGI (ie.
authentication/authorization through script, unmakeable with CGI).
p.s. I cannot buy more memory, because it is very expensive
(150$ for 64MB)
p.p.s. Please, do not take this as a point to a flamewar. This
is only my opinion taken from observation.
