cookieless sessions

I'm trying to maintain sessions without cookies using SID.
all works fine if I click on links which have the variable embedded, like <a
href="page.php?<?=SID?>">link</a>
as soon as I hit the back button however, the PHPSESSID changes, and SID reflects the new value
(I'm using win2k)
anyone else seen this?
