It depends on the type of local search engine your looking for, there
are some php search options, you might want to check Avi Rapports page
at http://searchtools.com or http://www.searchtools.com, some where
along the top of the menu there is an item marked tools...there is a
large selection of local search engines listed, for perl, c, java, etc
for most platforms....you might also want to check
http://thunderstone.com ...if you're indexing less than
10k documents I
think their engine is usable free for local web sites...It's been a
while since I was at their site...that's what I recall.
