I just realized an important piece of information that I left out: I am
also using the latest release of PHP - 4.0.1pl2.

I am having difficulties getting the shared library extensions to work due
to a problem when executing buildconf. I get the error message that the
macro "AM_PROG_LIBTOOL" is not in the library. I have re-executed ltconfig,
and it has had not effect. I am basically just following the procedures as
stated in the README.EXT_SKEL file. Is there something I am doing wrong?
I have made sure that the latest libtool, automake, and autoconf are
installed. Is there anything else here that I am missing?

Don't thank me. Thank Jouni, Sascha and Andrei who worked on this
ext_skel framework.
