Sounds like a familiar problem. As odd as this sounds, try this: erase the doc_root path in the ini file. It needs to be blank. Don't ask me why. PHP will get the doc_root directly from Xitami. Also, the MIME type for PHP files seems to be unnecessary in Xitami. If the above does not solve your problem, try removing the MIME type. (It should work either way though) Other than that, you configuration seems to be pretty much the same as mine. jordan ----- Original Message ----- From: "Stephen J. I am having trouble getting PHP to work on my system. I'm sure I must be overlooking something simple, so thanks in advance for your patience. Operating system is Windows 98 4.10.1998 Web server is Xitami 2.4.d7 from file bw3224d7.exe PHP3 is from file php-3_0_16-win32.zip Browser is MS Internet Explorer 4.0 I followed these installation instructions for Xitami: 1. ran the executable and installed application in d:\xitami 2. in xitami.cfg, added line .php3=d:\php\php.exe in [Filter] section 3. in xitami.cfg, added line php3=application/x-httpd-php3 in [Mime] section No other changes were made to the default configuration file. I followed these installation instructions for PHP: 1. extracted .zip file to d:\php 2. copied php3.ini-dist to c:\windows and renamed it php3.ini 3. verified doc_root=d:\xitami\webpages in Path and Directories section 4. verified extension_root=d:\php in Path and Directories section No other changes were made to the default configuration file. Just looking at xitami.cfg and php3.ini, it seems as though I have told Xitami where to find PHP and have told Windows where to find webpages and extensions, but have not told Windows where to find php.exe, although I'm not sure whether this matters. The following file was placed in the d:\xitami\webpages directory and was named test.php3: <!doctype html public "-//w3c/dtd html 3.2//en"> <html><head><title>PHP test</title></head> <body> Is PHP working? <?php echo "<P>PHP is working</P>\n"; ?> </body></html> When I start Xitami and MSIE browser and attempt to open http://127.0.0.1/test.php3, I get the following error message: Fatal error: Unable to open d:\xitami\webpages/ in - on line 0 No input file specified. I have tried other variations of the "hello world" file and have also tried a file with the function <?php phpinfo() ?> with the same error message resulting. I have looked in the PHP FAQ and manual and can find no reference to this error message. I would greatly appreciate any suggestion as to how I might resolve this problem. I am anxious to start writing PHP scripts! :) Thanks in advance. Stephen J. Opalka
