wddx problems

Hi:
I get this error :
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: wddx_packet_start() in
/var/www/html/worldtree.net/easyvortal/form.php on line 20
when trying to execute this code:
$firstname = "colin";
$packet = wddx_serialize_vars("firstname") ;
echo $packet;
Before quitting there and writing for support I did some searching
around and found that in order to use the wddx functions you need to
--enable-xml
So I did this recompiled and restarted httpd. when I look at me
phpinfo() output the configure command was updated so everything looks
to be updated but when I try to run the script again, it fails with the
same error message.
Let me know If I did anything wrong and or you need me to attach my
phpinfo() page for more information.
