I found this in my httpd.conf. Looks like I still have the php3 module
loaded. Do I just comment that line out?
LoadModule php4_module modules/libphp4.so
LoadModule php4_module lib/apache/libphp4.so
#AddModule mod_vhost_alias.c
AddModule mod_php4.c
#Include conf/vhosts/DynamicVhosts.conf
#Include conf/vhosts/VirtualHomePages.conf
Include conf/addon-modules/mod_perl.conf
Include conf/addon-modules/mod_php3.conf

Can you post your configure line for PHP, and also your test script?
What I am trying to figure out is if your apache is using modules (and if
so,
did you check httpd.conf to make sure the right module is being loaded. You
should only have one: either php3 or php4). Or, if cgi version is use, make
sure
the script #! points to the right php executable
