hey everyone: ok, we all know this is a horrible browser (can't do file uploads, putrid javascript support), but can anyone confirm that it will just drop text from a textarea when you submit a form? i've got a standard form-db interface i wrote, and i've got a bunch of people posting film descriptions and they're getting truncated. the weird thing is, there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the truncation (like a number of characters or whatever). is the only solution to this a message that says "please don't use this browser"?
That's a good suggestion but anyway, the only thing I can think of is the field is longer than 255 characters on a GET form. Try making the METHOD of the form POST. Or make sure your database field can hold more then 255.
oh...i should have disclosed that this is feeding into a mysql column of type 'text' and that i have tried both GET and POST as form submission problems. so, we're talking 65000 characters and we definitely aren't butting up against the 8k limit on GET requests. sometimes, it truncates text that's a couple of short paragraphs; just hacking off a few letters. i'm just trying to see if anyone's had similar trouble with mac IE 4.x clients and their own form submissions (still the browser used in AOL for the Mac, despite the 5.x upgrade that's currently available to sane people who don't use AOL).
