Still can't get php4 to compile

Could anyone point me to a manual or a website or any source of info on
where to find a solution to my problem with compiling php4?
make always dies with this:
[root@www /usr/src/php-4.0.1pl2]$ make
Making all in Zend
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/php-4.0.1pl2/Zend'
make[1]: *** No rule to make target `all'. Stop.
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/php-4.0.1pl2/Zend'
make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
I haven't touched anything under the Zend/ directory, just ran configure
and then make.
Anyone?
