I'll make do with the Apache (?) variable $REMOTE_USER for
now. I've only got one password protected area just now so
I can just check if that variable is set. I'll have to device
a different scheme later, but I don't want to do too much now
as my host (pair.com) starts rolling out PHP4 in August.
