Forget it - I figured it out. If I send this along with the rest of the
headers everything is just peachy:
$url = $PHP_SELF.'?uid='.$uid.'&pwd='.$pwd.'&action=howto';
header( 'Refresh:0; url="'.$url.'"');
...
