The general rule is that anything that requires a 3rd-party library is not compiled into PHP by default. For example, you will not be able to connect to an Oracle database without install the Oracle client libraries and telling PHP where they are by doing something like --with-oci8=/some/path MySQL is a special case because the client code comes bundled with PHP now. GD which gives you the image functions is also something of a special case because many people have this library installed already on the system and PHP will try to find it and add support for it if it is there. PDF, FDF, SWF, etc. all require 3rd party libraries and you will have to explicitly enable these. Put a <? phpinfo() ?> tag on a page and load it up to see what your installed version of PHP supports. -Rasmus On Sat, 3 Jun 2000, Wizaerd wrote: > I know this is going to sound dumb, but I was curious about some of the > configure options when compiling PHP 4.0.
