Greetings,
Like many as of late, I've been agressively looking for a proper job and
have found the task of searching, following up, making notes, phone calls,
interviews, etc. to be quite a chore. So I began sketching the design for a
program that manages this for me; web front end, php as the language, mysql
backend. The schema I've developed thus far looks like this:
date_init: 4/29/02 [when I found the job]
date_last_call: 5/1/02
date_last_email: 5/2/02
date_to_call: 5/7/02
date_interview: 5/8/02
contact_name: Max Fortech
contact_company: Foo Inc.
contact_url: http://www.fooinc.com/
recruiter: y/n
contact_email: max@fooinc.com
contact_addr:
tel: (718) 123-6448
url_job: http://www.net-temps.com/could?be?a?really?long?url
* hope_scale: 1-10
notes_general: blah, blah...
note_red_alert: wants a revision of resume before sending, etc.
* hope_scale: 1-10 <- this indicates how likely the person is to followup,
whether I like the job/company, and whether I should be getting in touch
soon. This also pushes the job or contact to the top of the list.
I'd like for date_to_call, note_red_alert, and hope_scale to determine what
jumps to the top of the list. There could be a few other things in the
schema so please send your comments. I don't think it's necessary to add an
item that turns on the coffee pot though (that is, I don't think behavior
here needs to be modified far beyond a sort routine).
So. I'm sending this is to see if this has already been done or if there's
something similar out there. My guess is this could be done within 50 lines
but my PHP experience is limited and I don't want to spend an evening
reinventing the wheel.
Also, this may be inspiring as I know there's alot of IT folk out there
looking for work. If you have copious free time to code this, please be my
guest (however this isn't the intention of my note). This aint a high
priority for me so if I finish this sometime this century it will be posted
here: http://www.sparklehouse.com/contrib/
If you've read this far you're probably looking for a job too and think this
is a cool idea. Would you happen to know of a job worm that hits a list of
job boards with keywords (boolean OR)? Like you I'm tired of the dozen daily
emails which require me to login to the site, run another search, or modify
my search because their engine is lame. It'd be much more efficient to get a
daily web page with the urls pointing directly to the job posting.
Have a nice day.
-ezekiel.
