Are you using the zend optimizer? It may help or harm depending
on the type of script you've got, but it's worth trying to see the results.
I've not run anything in PHP4 that was *slower* than PHP3. I've had a
couple scripts where the speed difference was neglible, and
those were in scripts that were nearly 100% database calls, and I
put the sameness down to database issues.
Are you saying *1* script is 70k? Maybe my code is too small! 70k is, imo,
quite a lot, tho I'm sure others will say that 70k is nothing. Current
project I'm working on has the largest script, with all include files,
at <40k. All in all, the 70k might *not* be an issue for PHP, but perhaps
your disk access is slower.
Are you testing PHP3 and 4 on the same machine, or at least
the same hardware/OS combination? What are the speed differences
you're seeing? Are you talking a few milliseconds, or *minutes* (?)
in time difference?
