I am not against this change or any of the others that you have proposed so far, but I think we once had a motto of "stick with the GTK API". Making all of these API changes will make it a little more difficult to create a new backward compatible version of PHP-GTK. All of the customizations (such as optional constructor arguments) will have to be added again in the new version. Also, dropping stuff from the GTK API will make it more difficult for people coming from the GTK world to adopt PHP-GTK.
Hi Scott, I personally don't see any evidence of GTK coders (aka people who write C) rushing to adopt PHP-GTK, but there you go :) Simplified constructors - aka those with optional parameters - have a long and happy history in PHP-GTK, right from the word 'go'. The only question, when there are more than two options, is which to make 'standard' and which to leave alone. And (as usual at present, sorry Christian) I'm up to the eyeballs in it and don't have time to do that piece of research. - Steph
